News Letter Dated Nov. 14th Oct. 25, 2008 Members, We held our picnic/meeting despite the 50 degree temperature and stout wind. (Not much flying happening). I believe I counted 17 brave souls there. Ken Moore called the meeting to order and began by thanking everyone for a reasonably safe year. We only had one fairly serious incident involving a finger and a prop. Please members, keep your fingers out of the props! Safe flying was his main concern. He also reminded us of “table etiquette”. That being, the starting and assembly tables are for just that, Starting & assembly. Please relinquish the tables after you’ve completed your start-up or assembly so other members may use the tables. Also, “flying etiquette”, whereas , try to refrain from hovering or doing other distracting maneuvers in the center of the field when other fliers are present. Also, high speed, low pass fly by’s are distracting as well. We’re not saying not to do these things because, we all know they’re fun to do but, try to use the utmost common sense while flying at the field. We needed to elect one new “Board” member as John Schell’s position had expired. Jeff Peterson volunteered to run for the position and no other nominations were received so Jeff was elected without objection by the members. He will serve a 3 year term. His position is “Field Manager”. His e-mail address is: flyjpr@yahoo.com and his phone number is 419-842-1428. A financial report was given by Jerry McNutt , that stated, the “Club” is in pretty good shape mainly due to a minimal amount of mowing and no need for fertilizer this past year. Ken also mentioned that we have purchased a small charcoal grill for use by the Club. Anyone that may need the grill may contact Ken Moore. We’d like to remind everyone of our February 2009 meeting which will be held at the Bay Park Hospital Community room, on the 3rd Wednesday at 7:00 pm. Your 2009 dues will need to be submitted at that time. The floor was then turned over to Joe DiDia. Joe is an active member of our club and also an IMAC member and CD. (Contest Director) He is looking for a field to host an IMAC contest next year. (2009) An IMAC event is an AMA sanctioned contest consisting of 30 to 40% airplanes, usually the Sukoui, Cap, Edge or Yak type or, any plane that can fly pattern type maneuvers. All planes have noise requirements and are strictly enforced. It would be a 2 day event, (Sat. & Sun.)held on the 3rd week-end in August. Joe’s IMAC team would collect fees from the entrants and would also set up a concession stand, selling sloppy joe’s, hot dogs, chips, drinks and things. The “Club” could profit from $350 to $800, depending on how many entrants. The Club would only need a few volunteers to help with parking and setting up a few tents and other menial chours. The field would be closed to normal membership flying each day until the contest portion is completed, usually about 6:00 pm on Saturday and about 4:00 pm on Sunday. Joe’s question to the members is, can he hold such an event at our field? It would mean, sacrificing one week-end this year, but would add some money to the Club’s coffers. At the field meeting today (Oct. 25th), there were opinions in both directions. Some are not in favor of holding such event sighting, “we are a fun flying club and not willing to give up a week-end, and others think it could enhance our club by promoting the sport and gain financially as well. We the “Board” need your opinion. Please e-mail me (p51nutt4@aol.com) or call 419-661-9167 and leave a message with your opinion. We would like your input by Nov. 8th. If anyone has any questions about this event, you can contact Joe DiDia at jdidial@bex.net or call him at 419-491-1983. The meeting was adjourned at about 2:30 pm, and still hardly anyone wanted to fly. Submitted, Jerry McNutt Sec.-Treas.
